Man versus machine has been a long-running issue in the workplace with the latter cheaper and non-confrontational, making it the preferred choice of managers.
Nearly 150 years ago, union firebrands in Sheffield took the law into their own
hands by targeting those they held responsible for putting jobs in danger and
families on the breadline.
Their covert attacks resulted in death and injury to powerful employers and
widespread fear on the streets of Steel City.
These dramatic reprisals were dubbed The Outrages and gave rise a century
later to a musical documentary which was written by Alan Cullen.
Produced by Judith and Stephen Walker.
