A PLAY BY BILL NAUGHTON
In this classic Northern comedy, Rafe Crompton rules the house with such unswerving authority that his family is forced to hide the slightest peccadilloes from him to keep the peace. His daughter Hilda particularly resents this and one teatime refuses to eat a herring which is placed before her. This makes for an explosive situation as patience frays and truths are told. The family is almost broken apart before Rafe is made to see the dangers of rigidly asserting his authority. Changes must be made if their relationships are to survive.
